Santi Cazorla has no plans to hang up his boots for another few years as the Spaniard aims to make the most of the career he almost lost.

I’m not sure there was anyone on the planet, apart from Santi Cazorla, who felt the midfielder could make a return to the top level of football after almost losing his foot following surgical complications.

Arsenal let him leave at the end of his contract and Villarreal snapped him up and haven’t been disappointed. Four goals and six assists in 25 La Liga games, Santi has averaged around 73 minutes per game domestically this season.

Out of contract with Villarreal this summer, Santi is hoping his playing days are not over.

“The sensations I have are very good and I think I can do it for a few more years,” Cazorla told the media.

“The ability to play at first level and, as I said, I’m fine and with good feelings, luckily I’m enjoying it a lot, I’ve fought for it and I feel good, so I hope I can enjoy it much longer.

“Right now is not the time to think about the future and we should only focus on thinking about saving the team. When it’s over, we’ll see how things are, how each one is and we’ll see.”

Villarreal are currently 17th in La Liga, just four points above the drop-zone.

In another interview with Mundo Deportivo, he added, “Every game is a final and that makes us suffer a lot, fighting to be saved has nothing to do … The injury was my suffering, but this is the suffering of many people and a club that you want, I would even sign for not playing anymore and that the team will be saved.”
