Arsenal u18 captain Matt Smith is top of the u18 Premier League for assists this season, after providing a hat-trick of them in Saturday’s 8-0 victory over Swansea City.

Smith has been the most consistent member of Arsenal’s league-leading u18 side, playing every single minute of the campaign so far as captain. Despite his deep role as a defensive midfielder, the 18-year-old’s biggest contribution has been in creating chances, and after three assists against Swansea, he’s up to 13 for the season.

You can see the second and third of those assists for the second and third goal in the clip below:

That overall tally of 13 puts him ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Armando Shashoua (11) at the top of the division, and there’s still time to add to it in the final three or four games of the season (depending on whether Arsenal qualify for the North division winner vs South division winner play-off).

It would be especially useful to add another assist or two on Tuesday against Tottenham Hotspur’s u18 side, as that match is likely to decide who finishes at the top of the table.

Let’s hope Smith can keep up his good form until the end of the campaign and carry it into the new season with the u23s.
