Uruguay announced their participation in the China Cup on Friday, along with the 27 players on the shortlist for the competition.

Arsenal star Lucas Torreira was among those named in the initial squad, which will be finalised in the days before the trip to China on the 15th March. That’ll make it a very quick turnaround for the player after the Gunners play Rennes on the 14th.

Uruguay will play a semi-final against Uzbekistan on March 22nd, before either playing a final or a third-place match on March 25th. The two teams taking part in the other semi-final are China and Thailand.

Uruguay won the tournament in 2018, with a 1-0 victory over Wales in the final. Torreira was a late substitute in that match, after making his international debut in the 2-0 semi-final win over the Czech Republic. Arsenal’s 23-year-old will be looking to retain the title this year.
