There’s no denying that Arsene Wenger v other top six sides was a struggle when it wasn’t just outright humiliation.

Liverpool aside this season, Arsenal have performed much better and, while they might not have collected the number of points their performances warranted against their rivals, there has been clear progress.

Speaking to the press, Koscielny highlighted exactly why that is. “Our record against the other big six teams this season is positive,” Kos said. “We have won 12 points compared to six last season.

“It shows how we are approaching those games differently. It is not just about attacking. We are more intelligent, we are more measured in our plans. We can change tactics halfway through a game, we can set up differently.

“The manager is using different formations and it shows his flexibility and the players’ too which is good I think. Of course, we still need to do better away from home in the big games but we are on the right path.”

Arsenal don’t have to face any of the top six again in the league, although there is the mouth-watering prospect of having to play Chelsea in the Europa League final.

Given Arsenal’s two performances against the Blues this season, should both sides make it, it will be the first time in a long time Arsenal fans approach a huge game against Chelsea thinking they have a real chance of winning.
