Reliable Di Marzio journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal showed an interest in AS Roma’s Cengiz Under in January and have since scouted him in March.

Writing for CalcioMercato on this occasion, Romano revealed that Arsenal “showed interest” in Under in January, and they’re clearly still on his tail, sending a scout to watch him this month. The pursuit of the winger is endorsed both by Unai Emery and the management team at the Emirates Stadium.
AS Roma reportedly know Under will be in great demand, but their plan is still to keep him around unless they receive a ridiculous offer. Under is expected to be worth more than double the €13m the Italian club paid for him.
13 players could leave Arsenal in 4 months
Previous reports suggested Roma want a fee in excess of €40m for the 21-year-old, though Chelsea would be providing competition for the signing, assuming they aren’t under the effects of their transfer ban. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a move in the past.
Under has six goals and nine assists in 25 games this campaign, although he’s currently sidelined with an injury. According to WhoScored‘s analysis, his biggest strength is his shooting from distance, but he has a few areas to work on, such as holding onto the ball and winning aerial duels.
We’ll see if Arsenal are willing to invest in the player’s potential in the hope they can develop those weaknesses and turn him into a world beater.
