Chuba Akpom’s new side PAOK are heading for the Greek Super League title, and they’re set to win it without losing a single match if they can hold on for five more games.

As it stands, PAOK are top of the table and 10 points clear of Olympiacos, though their title rivals have a game in hand. Assuming the second-place side picks up maximum points between now and the end of the campaign, PAOK would need three wins or more from their final five games to lift the trophy.

There’s more at stake than that though, as PAOK are yet to lose a league game this season, with 22 wins and three draws so far. They’re just five draws or wins away from being the first side to win the title without losing since 1963/64. Plus, they’re also in the semi-final of the Greek Cup, facing Asteras Tripolis.

It’s an exciting time for Arsenal academy graduate Chuba Akpom, who joined the club last summer. It took a while for him to get into the team, but he has eight goal contributions in 17 games (11 starts) this season overall. He managed to win the supporters’ affections with a goal and assist in their recent clash with Olympiacos.

Speaking about being so close to the title, Akpom told BBC Sport: “Everywhere I go, fans are always reminding me it’s been 34 years since we last won the league. Football is a religion here. Supporters are always stopping to show me their PAOK tattoos. It’s natural there are more nerves the closer we’re getting to the title. It’s been so long.”

Hopefully, the 23-year-old and his new team can get over the line in the coming weeks.
