Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid winger Gelson Martins, currently on loan with AS Monaco, a year after they reportedly failed to sign him the first time.

According to The S*n, Atletico Madrid have offered Arsenal the chance to sign Gelson Martins, after the winger failed to impress for them in the first half of the season. After signing the 23-year-old on a free transfer last summer, Atletico ended up loaning him out again in January, with AS Monaco snapping the former Sporting Lisbon man up.

Since then, Martins has been back to his best form. He has three goals and three assists in just eight appearances at right wing for Monaco, despite only managing one goal and no assists in 12 for Atletico.

The reason for that is unclear. Whether Martins is just not a good fit for the Spanish league, or he didn’t fit in with the style at Atletico, or he’s just an inconsistent player, it’s hard to say. Arsenal do need a winger in the summer though, and reports suggest they were keen on signing him last summer, so perhaps they’d be willing to take a chance.
