Arsenal are interested in Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti, and they could try to use former Barca man Raul Sanllehi to get a deal done this summer, according to reports.

Mundo Deportivo write that Arsenal join Manchester United in chasing Barcelona centre-back Umtiti. The Gunners are hoping that Raul Sanllehi’s connections with the La Liga side could help to give them an advantage in negotiations.

The report suggests there’s a feeling that Barcelona need cash to try and complete high-profile signings like that of Matthijs De Ligt, which could see them leaving the door open for Umtiti. However, it reportedly depends on how the player finishes the season in Spain.

Last week, rumours started circulating on social media that Arsenal were interested in the defender. Italian outlet CalcioMercato also reported that Umtiti ‘could leave Barcelona in June’.

Plus, Charlton’s Naby Sarr told a local news outlet that he, Umtiti and Alexandre Lacazette were all close friends, so the striker could put in a good word if Umtiti needs any convincing.

At his best Umtiti is a top quality defender. The 25-year-old passes excellently, he can carry the ball when required and he’s a great tackler. The major downside of signing him right now is he’s struggled with knee injuries all season. If that clears up, he’d make a fantastic addition to the Arsenal defence.
