Arsenal are chasing Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico, who could be available for around £8m this summer, according to reports in the English media.

According to the Mail on Sunday, Arsenal ‘remain in the hunt’ for a new left-back, though they have competition for the signature from Atletico Madrid. Ajax would reportedly be willing to sell the 26-year-old for around £8m, after buying him for less than half of that fee just over a year ago.

Late last month, Fox Sports journalist Martin Liberman claimed Arsenal were willing to pay Tagliafico’s release clause. According to the Argentinian reporter, the Gunners were prepared to offer an ‘irresistible’ contract to the defender.

It really wouldn’t be surprising to see the club move for a left-back in the summer. Sead Kolasinac has been performing well at wing-back, but Unai Emery doesn’t seem to trust him as much in the full-back position. Meanwhile, Nacho Monreal’s form has been a bit inconsistent and his injury record even more so.

Tagliafico plays as a full-back, rather than a wing-back, and he’s helped Ajax to some impressive results this season against the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. The Argentine international has five goals and five assists in 31 appearances this campaign. He’d make a good signing for Arsenal this summer, so let’s see what happens.
