The clash between Dortmund and Hoffenheim was an opportunity for Nelson to reunite with his long-term friend Jadon Sancho, who opened the scoring on the day. However, the Arsenal loanee was confined to the bench at first, watching his team go 3-0 down within the first hour.

With 20 minutes left and nothing to lose, Julian Nagelsmann introduced the 19-year-old from the bench. After that, the game turned on its head and Hoffenheim scored three goals in 12 minutes to draw level.

In all honesty, Nelson had a minimal part to play in the goals, so it would be stretch to say his substitution inspired the comeback. However, he did his job after coming on and his team got the result, so there can be no complaints about his contribution on this occasion.

This was the Englishman’s second substitute appearance since his injury over the winter break. Hopefully, he’ll make the starting lineup again before long and help Hoffenheim push as far up the table as possible, before returning to North London this summer.
