Mesut Özil featured in WhoScored’s Team of the Week for the most recent round of fixtures, after a starring performance in Arsenal’s 5-1 win over Bournemouth.

WhoScored included Özil in their largely Merseyside-based team for this week, after Liverpool and Everton’s 5-0 and 3-0 respective victories. Other than the German, only Fabian Schar of Newcastle made it into the eleven.
Özil was a deserving entrant in the side though. He scored once, assisted a second goal and only the woodwork denied him adding a third. The playmaker was back to his creative best, making five chances for his teammates, and he completed 97% of his passes despite playing in the front three.
Additionally, the 30-year-old tracked back and made a couple of tackles and interceptions, and even his corners found their targets 75% of the time. He really couldn’t do much wrong on Wednesday night. Overall, WhoScored gave him a 9.2 rating, the third highest on the team.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan was unlucky to miss out with his 8.6 rating, which was higher than six of the players who did make the team. Unfortunately, only the best-rated players in each position get in, and Mkhitaryan had Özil (9.2) and Sigurdsson (8.7) ahead of him.
