Marc Overmars is now the front runner for Arsenal’s new Technical Director job, according to reports, with the appointment of AS Roma’s Monchi looking more and more unlikely.

Goal report that Overmars is fast becoming the favourite for the Arsenal job, as they prepare for Sven Mislintat’s departure this week. The Gunners’ Head of Recruitment is set to leave his role on February 8th, leaving room for at least one new addition to the backroom staff.

It seems Arsenal scout Francis Cagigao is in line to take over from Mislintat, though that isn’t confirmed. That still leaves the question of who takes up the Technical Director role.

A spokesperson for Ajax has reportedly denied that Arsenal have approached Overmars for the job, but Goal claim the ex-Arsenal star is still the ‘main candidate’ right now.

Raul Sanllehi is reportedly leading the search, looking for someone with a history in football and also with experience of the technical side of the game. The new Technical Director should be able to discuss tactics and a football vision for the club with Unai Emery.

Overmars isn’t the only candidate though, with a number of potential alternatives reportedly in Spain. AS Roma’s Monchi was previously linked with the club by the BBC’s David Ornstein, but at the moment it seems he’s bound to his contract. We’ll see what happens in the coming months.
