Jack Wilshere could be back in training before the end of the month, despite recent fears that an injury setback might have ended his season.

Last week, reports suggested West Ham feared that Jack Wilshere’s season could already be over.

After ankle surgery in September, the 27-year-old suffered a setback in October, then an injury to his other ankle in December. The Daily Mail claimed on Saturday that an optimistic timeframe would see him back in ‘between six and eight weeks’, but realistically he might’ve played his final game of the campaign already.

However, Manuel Pellegrini is now hopeful the midfielder will be back in training in a few weeks. That would be a big boost for the former Gunner, as he won’t want to sit out another entire season due to his injuries.

Wilshere has played just 339 minutes for West Ham this season, in five games. With wages of £5m a year, that’s £1m-per-game for 2018/19 if he doesn’t return. Considering his team lost four of those five matches, that’s not a record the England international will want hanging over him.

Let’s hope for a speedy recovery and better luck with injuries from here on out.
