Alex Scott has torn into Stephan Lichstetiner after the defender put in a terrible display against Manchester City on Sunday.

The former Juventus man arrived at Arsenal in the summer on a free and it didn’t take long to work out why the Italians were happy to let him leave. Assuming his decline hasn’t been instant in the period between leaving Juventus and arriving Arsenal, you have to wonder how Lichsteiner managed to stay with the Old Lady until 2018.

With Ainsley Maitland-Niles out with a knee injury, Unai Emery brought the Swiss in as a replacement for the injured Hector Bellerin. In all seriousness, most Arsenal fans would have preferred to see Carl Jenkinson take that role. That’s how poor Lichtsteiner has been.

Speaking after the game, Alex Scott, who has shown herself to be one of the top pundits in the country who regularly puts her more senior male colleagues to shame (while being patronised by them), she said, “He’s all over the place. He doesn’t know when to go and close down his player.

“He’s leaving…a bit half-a***d and that’s why between him and (Alex) Iwobi, they’re getting popped around down this side.”

All three of City’s goals came down Lichstetiner’s side.
