Granit Xhaka and Sokratis Papastathopoulos have both returned to light training, with Xhaka sharing pictures of the pair in action on his Instagram page.

Xhaka and Sokratis have both missed out on the last couple of games against Cardiff and Manchester City due to injury. The former was struggling with a slight groin issue, which forced him to the bench in midweek before dropping out of the squad completely at the Etihad.

Meanwhile, Sokratis suffered an ankle injury against Manchester United, which initially didn’t look too bad. Reports from Arsenal since then have stated the defender could be out until the end of February, but the fact he’s back in light training already suggests it could be sooner than that.

Xhaka shared the photos via his Instagram story, with Arsenal yet to make any official comment on the latest injury update:

The midfielder also added a post captioned: “Recovery mode on. So good to step foot on the pitch again”.

Given that Arsenal’s next game is now just two days away and the pair are still only in light training, it seems unlikely either will make it back in time to face Huddersfield. Although Xhaka is reportedly ‘being assessed’ ahead of the match.

After that, there’s a break for the Europa League matches and the FA Cup fifth round (which obviously doesn’t apply to Arsenal). Hopefully, the duo will both return by the time Unai Emery’s side play their next league match against Southampton on February 24th, or sooner if possible.
