On Wednesday, Welbeck made a guest appearance at the Arsenal-run event at The Sevens. He answered a number of questions, mostly about his fitness, but unsurprisingly those in attendance were also eager to hear his thoughts about Ramsey’s departure.

The Welshman announced his exit on Monday, after playing alongside the former Manchester United striker for over four years. He’s set to join Juventus at the end of the season, having signed a pre-contract and completed two medicals. Welbeck admits he found out the transfer was being made official no sooner than the fans did.

“I heard the news when everybody else did,” Welbeck said (via The National on Thursday). “Aaron’s a great player and a great friend. I wish him all the best on his next chapter and that’s all I can say on that.”

The two players have a lot in common, having just a month between them in age and breaking into the Manchester United and Arsenal sides respectively in the same season (2008/09). Next year will be the first time they haven’t both played a Premier League match since their debuts in the competition.

It remains to be seen what Welbeck will be doing in 2019/20. The striker’s contract with Arsenal is coming to an end, and he’s yet to extend it. For now, though, he’s just focusing on getting fit again.
