Alexandre Lacazette, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Bernd Leno and Sead Kolasinac are all up for Arsenal’s Player of the Month award this month.

Arsenal posted the vote on the club website on Thursday, after completing their final match of the month against Bournemouth the previous night. Let’s have a look at each of the candidates:

Alexandre Lacazette

  • Appearances: 5
  • Goals: 3

Lacazette continued his strong January form with another three goals in four starts for Arsenal. His efforts against Huddersfield and Southampton both ended up being winners, whilst his goal against Bournemouth just capped off a great night for Unai Emery’s side.

The striker did pick up a red card against BATE Borisov, but his domestic form was excellent.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

  • Appearances: 5
  • Goals: 2
  • Assists: 3

Mkhitaryan surprised a lot of people this month, returning from injury like a different player. With as many goal contributions as games since his comeback and consistently good performances all around, the Armenian international deserves a lot of credit for his individual improvement.

Bernd Leno

  • Appearances: 4
  • Goals conceded: 5
  • Saves: 22

Though Leno only kept one clean sheet in February, you could hardly fault his performances. The goalkeeper saved 81.5% of the shots he faced, which is an impressive figure. For context, Liverpool’s Alisson has the highest save percentage for this Premier League season overall, and he’s at 79.2%.

If only Arsenal didn’t concede so many chances, the German might keep a few more clean sheets than the one he managed!

Sead Kolasinac

  • Appearances: 5
  • Assists: 2

Although only two of them were converted into assists, Kolasinac was a chance-creating machine in February. He made 13 in total, 27% of the chances created by Arsenal players in those five matches. When one player is responsible for over a quarter of your team’s creative output, that’s worth noting!

The Bosnian was also solid defensively, though he was often playing as a wing-back or even a left midfielder, relieving him of some of those duties.

If you want to place your vote for player of the month, you can do so on the Arsenal website.
