Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are scouting Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Matthias Ginter ahead of a potential summer move, according to reports.

Sky Sports report that their sources inform them the two North London clubs are both monitoring Ginter ahead of the summer. They add that Arsenal are scouting for centre-backs for the upcoming window given the question marks over the futures of many of the defenders currently at the club.

Any potential move still seems to be in the early stages, considering that’s as much information as Sky give on Arsenal’s interest.

Ginter would become one of many former Borussia Dortmund stars if he joined The Gunners, along with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. However, like Mkhitaryan, Ginter would be moving via another club, in his case Monchengladbach.

Perhaps this is our final example of the influence of former Dortmund man and departing Arsenal Head of Recruitment Sven Mislintat, who played a big part in the rest of those deals.

Ginter has made 17 appearances in the Bundesliga and the German Cup this season, and he recently helped his team to their third consecutive clean sheet. Three shutouts in a row is a feat Arsenal haven’t managed at all under Unai Emery, so they probably do need the help.
