Vlad Dragomir says he’s feeling good with Serie B side Perugia, after joining from Arsenal in the summer, but he’s hoping to reach the top with both club and country.
Dragomir spoke to Romanian TV outlet Telekom Sport over the weekend, discussing how he’s found life in Italy since his move, and what he hopes to achieve in the future.
“At the moment I feel very good, especially here in Perugia,” Dragomir said (via GSP). “I expected it to be quite a big change, but I got used quickly because I always said that it seems to me that Italy is a little like Romania.
“My plan, as I said, is to get to play in Serie A. Like any player who wants to come to the national team, I also want to get to the (Romanian) first team. But I have to work and improve myself so I can get there. There are valuable players and the U21’s have potential players who can make the difference and have a good Euro result.”
Dragomir has one goal and one assist in 16 matches since joining Perugia, playing mostly as a central midfielder. The club are still a fair way off promotion at the moment, sitting eighth in the table. However, there’s only an eight-point gap to first place, so there’s still time to turn things around in the second half of the season.
As for the national team, Dragomir got himself back into the u21 side back in November, providing an assist in a 3-3 draw with Belgium. Regular football has clearly put him back in contention for the team, after over a year without a game at the top youth level. The former Gunner is still a way off the senior side as things stand though.
Hopefully, the 19-year-old will continue his first-team progress and reach his potential, after all the hype around him as an Arsenal player. We’ll see.
