FC Barcelona are trying to bring yet another Arsenal fan favourite to the Camp Nou, with Olivier Giroud reportedly on their radar, according to reports in Spain.

Giroud, who joined Chelsea from Arsenal a year ago, could already be on the way out. Sport point out that the striker’s contract expires at the end of the season, and call him a ‘priority’ for Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde. They add that the physical presence and experience of the 32-year-old are what makes him appealing.

The French international is far from the first Arsenal star to end up with Barcelona. In recent years we’ve seen Aleksandr Hleb join the Catalan club, along with Thomas Vermaelen, Cesc Fabregas, Alex Song, Thierry Henry, Emmanuel Petit, Marc Overmars and more.

It’s hard to think of many who really improved after leaving Arsenal though. Hleb regularly admits that he should’ve stayed in North London, Henry never hit the same heights in Spain, Fabregas only lasted a few years before returning to the Premier League, and players like Petit, Vermaelen and Overmars just couldn’t stay fit.

We’ll see if things pan out differently for Giroud if he does end up making the same move via Chelsea.
