After years of being linked with a move to Arsenal, Adrien Rabiot has rejected the chance to move to Tottenham because he apparently wants to join Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
The 23-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has become a target for a number of top clubs, plus Tottenham, after rejecting a PSG extension.
Paris United report that the player ‘has always seen himself playing for the Anfield giants’ which smells like total bull if you ask me.
We’ve been covering Rabiot for a number of years and that is not a narrative that has much weight. Speaking back in 2017, he did say, “I would love to play in the Premier League, not necessarily one club in particular, even though I was very fond of Liverpool when I was young,” so I guess that’s the basis for these claims.
Anyway, wherever he ends up, it is unlikely to be at Spurs and it probably won’t be at Liverpool either as they are not said to be looking for any new midfielders.
Spurs reportedly offered the player a signing bonus of €5m plus a salary of €7.5mpy (approx £125kpw). Serge Aurier and Lucas Moura are allegedly trying to convince him to join while Spurs are happy to pay a ‘nice transfer fee’ to land him this month.
Rabiot, however, despite liking London, wants to sign for Klopp. So says the report, at least.
Rabiot has not played for PSG since December 11 and has not even been selected as part of the squad in the league since December 5. Thomas Tuchel reportedly wants to bring him back into the squad but PSG sports director Antero Henrique ‘categorically refuses’.
Henrique is annoyed that the player promised him during their pre-season summer tour that he would sign an extension ‘as soon as possible’.
PSG confirmed back in December that the player had ended contract extension talks.
