Former Arsenal youngster, Conor Henderson, has signed for Dunărea Călărași in the Romanian first division.
Now 27, Henderson was released by Arsenal way back in 2013, although it doesn’t seem that long ago.
Since then, he’s been something of a journeyman, finding himself at Hull, Stevenage, Grimsby Town, Crawley Town, Eastbourne, and, finally, OFK Pirin in Bulgaria from where he was released last summer.
He’s been without a club since then but has now been snapped up by Dan Alexa at Dunărea Călărași.
The Irish midfielder arrived at Arsenal aged eight but made only one appearance for the senior team – an FA Cup game against Leyton Orient that he started and finished. Arsenal won the game 5-0.
Dunărea Călărași were founded in 1962 and were promoted to the top division at the end of last season. They are currently 12th in a league of 14 that is topped by CFR Cluj, some 29 points ahead of Henderson’s new side with just five games remaining before the play-offs to determine promotion and relegation.
