Tyreece John-Jules is set to miss up to 4 weeks of football with a hamstring injury, but he’s likely to return in time for the Arsenal u23s’ game against Tottenham Hotspur next month.

John-Jules suffered an injury on the night of the Arsenal u23s’ recent 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on January 7th. He felt tightness in his hamstring, which grew worse as the game went on, before his substitution in the 60th minute.

It’s been confirmed to Daily Cannon that the 17-year-old forward has since had a scan, which came back with positive results. Nonetheless, he was still set to be out for “four weeks”, one of which he’s already come through without further setbacks.

There’s still a possibility John-Jules makes it back in time for the u23 game against West Ham United on February 4th. However, the more likely return date is February 15th, for the North London derby match away to Tottenham Hotspur.

It would certainly be a boost to have the striker back for the derby, considering he scored in the reverse fixture back in August.

After discovering the exact nature of his injury, John-Jules responded on Twitter that he’s ‘working hard to be back stronger and better than before’.

This has been a bit of a breakthrough year for the youngster, so far. After a positive campaign with the u18s in 2017/18, John-Jules has made the step up to the u23s this season. He has seven goals and four assists from 16 appearances in all competitions, despite having to play out wide at times to accommodate Eddie Nketiah.

The result of that good form is that Unai Emery called John-Jules up to the first-team squad that faced FC Vorskla and Qarabag in the Europa League group stages. Although he didn’t end up making it onto the pitch, it’s another step in the right direction to be with the senior side for competitive fixtures.

Let’s hope the young forward is back fit and playing as soon as possible. For now, here are some of his highlights from the current campaign:
