Mesut Özil posted a video to his Instagram story alongside Mohamed Elneny on Saturday, after the two of them missed out on the Premier League squad to face West Ham United.

After the first-team squad left for the London Stadium, Özil and Elneny remained behind at the training ground, and they posted a video together on Instagram. In the clip, Özil says “Don’t be sad, indeed Allah is with us” before Elneny responds “That’s really good, bro”, presumably referring to the German’s language skills.

It’s probably best not to read too much into what the pair were actually saying. It was likely just an attempt to practice speaking a different language, rather than anything to really read into. However, the fact they chose to film and post a video just before the squads were announced is interesting.

Perhaps the pair were trying to show supporters that they’re not feeling down about missing out, or that they’re still working hard at the training centre, rather than jetting off to see friends or similar. It’s hard to say for sure.

What is certain, is that Arsenal are really starting to miss their playmaker in the team. The sooner Özil can be fully fit and playing again, the better.
