Denis Suarez added to the speculation surrounding his future on Thursday night, by impressing on the pitch for Barcelona and then ‘liking’ a number of tweets that suggested he’s on the way out.
After Suarez was left out of the Barcelona squad at the weekend, it was a bit of a surprise to see him brought back into contention for the midweek Copa Del Rey match against Levante on Thursday. The 25-year-old began the game on the bench, but with his team 2-0 down, manager Ernesto Valverde decided to give Suarez a chance.
The Spaniard didn’t waste the opportunity, making an impressive run down the right-hand side to win a penalty and cut the deficit to one goal. Barcelona should have no trouble overturning that deficit at Camp Nou in the second leg.
After the game, Suarez logged onto Twitter and liked a few posts suggesting he’s on the way out. One said: “When Denis finds a team where he can play regularly…expect to see a lot more of this!”
In another tweet liked by Suarez, a Barcelona fan said: “Thank you [Denis Suarez] for your commitment and your effort, your talent will see the sun. You deserve your chance.”
Another added: “Thanks [Suarez], because even if you do not get the minutes you deserve and they have you on the exit ramp, every minute you get you take advantage the most.”
The suggestion is certainly that Suarez agrees with those who believe he is being unfairly treated at Barcelona. Despite only playing 244 minutes this season, the midfielder-turned-winger has two goals and one penalty won. He’s directly contributed to a goal more frequently than every 90 minutes, yet he can’t buy a start in the league.
Hopefully, Arsenal will soon agree their proposed loan deal with Barcelona, and Suarez can have a fresh start under Unai Emery.
