David Ospina returned to the Napoli starting lineup over the weekend, after a few league games on the bench, and he impressed the media keeping a clean sheet against AC Milan.

Ospina has been in and out of the Napoli team all season so far, with his only consistent run of appearances coming in the Champions League, where he played every minute. However, in the last month, the Colombian went from playing every other league game to not playing any at all, with Alex Meret getting a run in the team instead.

After impressing and keeping a clean sheet in a Coppa Italia win over Sassuolo, Ospina found himself back in goal in the league against AC Milan over the weekend. He managed to keep another clean sheet, making it three in a row, and won some praise in the media for his performance.

German outlet Kicker‘s headline for the match was “Ospina saves Napoli in pain”. They highlighted one save in particular after Ospina had just been down injured, saying: “The defender (Musacchio) steered the ball artistically into the left corner, but Ospina parried brilliantly on the line – the Colombian still clearly had pain from a collision a few seconds earlier.”

The 30-year-old is now up to 17 appearances, eight away from the magic 25 which would see Napoli’s purchase clause automatically activated. If he keeps playing as he did at the weekend, the Arsenal loanee is likely to hit that total very soon.
