FC Barcelona are planning to leave Denis Suarez out of the first-team squad until he accepts one of the proposals on the table and leaves, according to reports.
Kike Marin writes in El Confidencial that Barcelona could set Suarez aside ‘for the remainder of the season’ if he doesn’t accept one of the offers on the table right now. The problem is that none of them quite tick all the boxes for the player.
Suarez could move on a permanent deal to Real Betis or Sevilla, who are both willing to pay around €20m for him. However, the 25-year-old would rather join Arsenal and his former coach Unai Emery.
Before they let him do that, Barcelona want Suarez to sign a contract extension with the club, in case Arsenal don’t take up their option to buy. The midfielder clearly isn’t keen on tying his future to Ernesto Valverde’s side though, considering he might end up spending another two years sitting on the bench as he is now.
The result is a stalemate, with Arsenal not willing to put up a transfer fee, Barcelona not willing to loan without agreeing on a contract extension and Suarez not willing to sign one. Until someone budges, the Spaniard is being left out.
With less than a week of the transfer window remaining, things need to start moving a little more quickly if this deal is going to get over the line.
