Arsenal have made a formal contract offer to Sevilla’s Ever Banega, which took the player by surprise as he didn’t expect anyone to meet his demands.
Estadio Deportivo report that even before the January transfer window, Ever Banega made it clear that he would only consider offers of net £7m-per-year in wages from top European clubs. The midfielder apparently didn’t expect anyone to meet those demands.
However, the Spanish outlet report that Arsenal have now met his demands, offering the exact £7m-per-year he wanted. They’re tempting him with a three-year contract, with the option for an additional fourth.
This has taken Banega by surprise, as he previously had no intentions to leave Sevilla in January, holding a contract with the club until 2020. Now, with an offer on the table that meets all of his requirements, the 30-year-old is thinking about it.
Estadio Deportivo say the Argentine international will personally announce his decision once he’s made it, as he did when he left for Inter Milan.
Banega is in fantastic form this season. He has eight goals and five assists in 28 appearances from midfield, and he’s been excelling in almost every area as a midfielder: Set pieces, long-shots, dribbling, key passes, finishing, passing and tackling are all listed as strengths based on WhoScored‘s statistical analysis.
The question is whether he could adapt to the Premier League, as well as whether he’d be willing to leave his home in Sevilla to try and do so. We’ll see.
