Arsenal are likely to appoint a new technical director as they continue with their structural changes, with former Gunner Edu Gaspar linked to the job.
The Mirror claim Arsenal want to add another figure to their current structure at the top. Raul Sanllehi is head of football, and Vinai Venkatesham is managing director, but they also want a senior figure on the technical side. That person’s job would be to ‘build up and improve the squad and also to coordinate the direction in the longer term’.
The English outlet adds that Arsenal have been linked with former midfielder Edu in the role, and they’ve discussed it with him, but ‘nothing is imminent’.
Most Arsenal fans would probably agree that the squad needs some management at the moment. There are quite a few older players in certain positions, as well as talented prospects who just need chances in others. Having someone in charge of the direction Arsenal take the squad would probably help in both areas.
Evaluating where additions are required, which technical aspects of the team are lacking, and how to improve in those areas, would hopefully put Arsenal on the right track to success. However, it will all depend on making the right appointment. We’ll have to wait and see if the club decide Edu fits the bill.
