Arsenal are still considering a move for Hector Herrera who is available on a free transfer in the summer.

Back in November it was reported that Arsenal’s interest in Hector Herrera is ‘known’, according to the Portuguese media, but the Gunners aren’t the only club considering signing the midfielder on a free transfer.

Record (via Sport Witness) reported that the most likely destination for the 28-year-old is Serie A, with AS Roma and Inter Milan involved. However, interest from Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Spurs is reportedly ‘known’ in England. Now we can add Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, and Wolves to that list according to Tuesday’s edition of O Jogo.

It reads, via a bad translation service, “The name of Herrera continues to circulate at full speed on the rumors of the market of the international Press. The “Sportitalia” guarantee yesterday that the Mexican had already an agreement with Inter, but the “Calciomercato” wrote that the Milan club is not the only one who wants to hire the average cost. Arsenal, Sevilla, Atlético Madrid, Rome and Wolverhampton also will be the following.”

This is far from the first or even second time Arsenal have been linked with the FC Porto midfielder. In October, Herrera was one of the key names on the English media’s list of players Unai Emery was looking at to replace Aaron Ramsey. The hype died down as interest in the Ramsey story waned, but it could well return as Herrera’s contract runs down.

The Mexican international has a deal lasting until the summer, just like Ramsey. As a result, Arsenal could speak to him over signing a pre-contract agreement in January, if they wanted to.

Herrera is having another solid season in Portugal. He just keeps things running in the midfield, winning aerials duels and making tackles, whilst impressing in possession with his passing and through balls.

The only question is whether Arsenal should be looking at a more creative midfielder. Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira seem to have the holding midfield spots nailed down for now after all.
