Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has responded on Instagram to an incident where a banana skin was thrown at him by Spurs fans after his first goal on Sunday.

In an apparent racial attack on the Arsenal striker, a Tottenham fan threw a banana skin onto the pitch right in front of Aubameyang’s celebrations.

Fortunately, it seems the Metropolitan Police managed to arrest the perpetrator, and the FA are set to investigate the incident regardless of whether it appears in Mike Dean’s match report.

Aubameyang responded to the incident with a post on Instagram, with a picture of the banana skin captioned “#whysmandoingthis ?”.

Lacazette quickly responded to the post with ‘facepalm’ emojis, showing his shared disappointment at such backwards and shameful behaviour. It’s great that they’ve both chosen to highlight what happened and shame those involved, as this sort of thing is completely unacceptable in the modern game.

A Spurs spokesman said: “Behaviour such as this is completely unacceptable and the supporter in question will be issued with a ban.”

Hopefully, the FA and the police come down on the offender as hard as possible, and they send a message to all supporters that this can never happen again.
