Henrikh Mkhitaryan has taken to Instagram to thank fans for wishing him well after he suffered a fractured metatarsal last week.

After Arsenal’s League Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur last week, Mkhitaryan was sidelined with what was initially believed to be an ankle problem. However, the club’s medical staff have since discovered the former Manchester United man has fractured a metatarsal, and he’ll need to spend six weeks on the sidelines.

Clearly, fans of Arsenal and Armenia have been sending the 29-year-old well-wishes for his recovery, because the midfielder posted his thanks to those supporters on his Instagram story on Tuesday.

The timing of the injury couldn’t have been much worse. The busy festive period is getting underway, and Arsenal can’t afford to be losing players to injury right now. Plus, after just two goals in his last 13 games for the team, Mkhitaryan had finally found some goalscoring form with a brace in his last Premier League match against Southampton.

On the upside, the transfer market opens in just a few days, so Arsenal are free to sign someone as a replacement if Unai Emery thinks it’s necessary. Even before Mkhitaryan’s injury, the squad did seem a bit light in wide areas. A good dribbler with a consistent final ball would make a solid addition either way.

For now, let’s keep wishing Mkhitaryan well with his recovery. Considering he’s a boyhood Arsenal fan, I’m sure the Armenian international won’t enjoy watching on helplessly for the next month and a half. Get well soon!
