Galatasaray want to sign Danny Welbeck in one of the next two windows, depending on how his injury rehabilitation goes, according to reports in Turkey.

Turkish outlet Aksam (via Sport Witness) claim that the Super Lig club are following Welbeck’s situation at Arsenal closely. They’re reportedly considering whether to make an offer for the forward in January, despite the player recently undergoing ankle surgery.

If Welbeck is set to return by February, which seems extremely unlikely, Galatasaray will make an offer in the winter transfer window. If not, they’ll wait until the summer to bring him in on a free transfer.

Arsenal haven’t given us an estimated return date for Welbeck just yet, but the fact he had to undergo two surgeries suggests it won’t be for a few months or more.

According to reports in the English media this month, Arsenal don’t plan to offer the striker a contract extension, meaning his deal will run out in the summer. If Galatasaray want to sign him at that stage, they can feel free to negotiate a pre-contract in January.

Welbeck had five goals in 14 appearances (7 starts) before his injury, as well as one assist. On average, he was providing a direct goal contribution every 101 minutes, a very decent return. It’s a shame another injury prevented any further progress, but with Lacazette and Aubameyang ahead of him, perhaps a transfer is for the best now.
