Per Mertesacker has been speaking, briefly, about the impact of Sven Mislintat on Arsenal’s squad and what the chief scout, along with Unai Emery, look for in a player.

Sven Mislintat arrived shortly before Arsene Wenger departed and has been widely hailed for the change in recruitment at the club.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang arrived as did Lucas Torreira, while Arsenal started shopping in markets, like Serie A, that Wenger had ignored for years.

Speaking to Sport Bild, Mertesacker, Arsenal’s Academy director, explained succinctly, “You can see his influence and his qualities in the squad compilation.

“Mislintat and coach Emery want full throttle football.

“After that, the team is put together.”

Full throttle. That’s certainly what we are seeing from Arsenal this season. It was an integral component in their destruction of Tottenham and when they’ve managed to find top gear, teams have been unable to live with them.

The pair have only had one window to work together but as another approaches, just think what lies ahead.
