Emile Smith Rowe has made an impressive start to life in senior football, so much so that he’s starting to embarrass former Gunner Alexis Sanchez with his performances.

In the 10 months since the Chilean’s first goal for Manchester United on February 3rd, Sanchez has scored just three times. That’s the same number of senior goals that Smith Rowe has scored in the same time period.

In fact, the 18-year-old has three goals in his last four matches for the Arsenal first-team. He was close to a fourth on Thursday before an offside seemingly given against Eddie Nketiah ensured his second of the match wouldn’t count. That’s in addition to the youngster’s three goals in five academy appearances this campaign.

There certainly weren’t many suggesting that Smith Rowe could replace Sanchez’s goal output back in January, but the strength of the current academy is such that you just have to give them the opportunities to impress.

Of course, the senior players haven’t had much trouble scoring goals either. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined after Sanchez’s departure and has 20 goals so far, whilst Alexandre Lacazette has 14 in the same time period.

Unfortunately for Sanchez, he won’t have the chance to bridge the gap against his former club next Wednesday, as he’s picked up an injury keeping him out until the new year. Let’s hope Arsenal’s forwards take full advantage to keep their respective runs of goals going.
