16-year-old Romanian midfielder Catalin Cirjan has seemingly confirmed his move to Arsenal this month, after updating his Instagram page with a picture of the club badge.

Over the summer, Cirjan told Romanian outlet Digi Sport that he was set to sign with Arsenal when he turned 16 in December. Now, it seems the transfer is confirmed, as Cirjan has changed his display picture on Instagram to one of him in front of the club badge:

Arsenal are unlikely to announce the move officially, as Cirjan is only joining on scholarship terms for now, rather than a professional deal. We may have to wait until next summer to get confirmation from the club. However, this is about as close as it gets without that official announcement.

The Mirror described Cirjan as a ‘wonderkid’ in their article on the move back in August, but his challenge is to succeed where fellow Romanian midfielder Vlad Dragomir failed. Dragomir moved on this summer without making a first-team appearance for Arsenal.

Cirjan already had a trial in North London last season, and he’ll join from Romanian side Viitorul Domnesti.

Another point to note is that the player spells his name “Catalin Cirjan” on Instagram, despite plenty of English publications calling him “Carjan”. We’re going to assume Cirjan himself knows best on this one. Check out highlights of his performances in various age groups below:
