Barcelona have asked Unai Emery for his thoughts on Adrien Rabiot, as they try to finalise a deal for the midfielder, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish outlet AS write that to avoid any doubts about the signing, Barcelona have been in contact with a couple of people who have already lived and worked with the player.

One of those is Unai Emery, who reportedly ‘only had good words’ to say about his former midfielder. The pair worked together for two years, a period of time which was crucial for Rabiot’s development into the player he is today.

According to AS, everything indicates the Rabiot will now leave PSG for Barcelona. At the Camp Nou, they already believe they have the player’s agreement, though they’re preparing for every eventuality all the same.

This latest update comes after PSG Sporting Director Antero Henrique confirmed earlier this month that Rabiot has refused all of their contract offers and that he’ll be benched indefinitely as a result. Henrique said that ‘at this point’ they have no plans to reopen negotiations over an extension.

The 50-year-old refused to confirm whether Rabiot would be available for transfer in January, but Yahoo Sport wrote that their sources say the club doesn’t rule out the possibility.

Rabiot was previously linked with a move to Arsenal, but it doesn’t seem like that’s a strong possibility anymore. Instead, Barcelona appear set to add the French international to their squad in the near future.
