Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly pushing for a ticket price increase for their League Cup clash with Arsenal next month.

Those of you who regularly attend Arsenal’s League Cup matches will know that the club charge significantly reduced prices for the fixtures. Whilst a Category A Premier League game like the one against Liverpool on Saturday can cost up to £97, the League Cup games are just £10 in the Lower Tier and £20 in the Upper.

You’d probably expect that for matches against the likes of Blackpool and Brentford, but it’s also true when the big sides come to visit. Last season’s semi-final against Chelsea cost supporters exactly the same: £10 Lower Tier, £20 Upper.

However, Tottenham are trying to force fans to pay more. REDaction Gooners report that Arsenal’s North London rivals are unhappy with the £10/20 ticket options and want to increase it.

If the prices do go up then you’ll know for certain who pushed the increase. Clearly, Arsenal aren’t interested in raising prices, considering they didn’t do so for Chelsea’s visit.

League Cup tie revenue is shared equally between both teams, so Spurs do get a say, even though the match is at the Emirates Stadium. They’re trying to use that influence to overcharge Arsenal supporters, as well as their own.

You really have to lack class as a club when you’re trying to rip fans off to raise money to pay off the debts you incurred by failing to open your own stadium on time. Apparently, it’s not enough to force Manchester City fans to travel down to Wembley on a Monday night to watch their team play on an NFL pitch.

This seems like a good time to remind everyone that Tottenham fans will pay more per game than any other fanbase in the Premier League to watch matches at their new ground. You might’ve missed that news, as the mainstream media are only interested in Arsenal’s ticket prices.

All that money to watch a team that’s won one League Cup and nothing else this millennium.
