Santi Cazorla scored his first goal for Villarreal from open play on Thursday, and it certainly caught the eyes of a number of Arsenal fans.

Cazorla had previously scored in the Europa League against Spartak Moscow, netting from the penalty spot. However, he was yet to get off the mark in open play until Villarreal’s Copa Del Rey clash with UD Almeria.

The goal was certainly worth the wait, as the midfielder beat two players before firing home from outside the area:

Arsenal fans, following the progress of the former Gunner from afar, unsurprisingly had a lot of praise for Cazorla after they saw the clip.

Unfortunately, Villarreal aren’t on the best run of form at the moment, despite Cazorla’s contributions. They drew Thursday’s match 3-3, so they’ll need a better result in the second leg of the cup competition. Meanwhile, they sit 17th in La Liga, winless in four.

The Europa League is the only place where they’re having moderate success, with one win and two draws leaving them second in the group on away goals. Then again, with a group of Rapid Wien, Rangers and Spartak Moskva you’d probably expect them to be doing even better.

Let’s hope for Santi’s sake that things improve.
