Sam Greenwood and Matt Smith kept their respective good runs of form going on Saturday in the Arsenal u18s’ 3-1 victory away to Swansea.

16-year-old Greenwood opened the scoring in the 13th minute, scoring his fourth goal in four starts for the Arsenal u18s. He’s making an impressive start to life with the Gunners after completing a summer move from Sunderland’s academy.

Swansea equalised before the break, through Arnor Gudjohnsen, but Matt Smith gave Arsenal the victory with a brace in the second half. His second goal came in the first minute of injury time to kill off the game, and it was assisted by Miguel Azeez.

Like Greenwood, Smith is having a very good start to the season. The central midfielder has taken up the captain’s armband for the u18s, and now has three goals and four assists in eight games for them this campaign.

That form is even earning Smith some chances with the u23s. He made his first start for the side last Friday, also against Swansea.

Arsenal play Forest Green Rovers in a crucial Checkatrade Trophy match next Wednesday. We’ll see if the midfielder gets another call-up, after featuring against Cheltenham Town last time out.
