Reiss Nelson is seemingly still not certain where he’ll be playing next season, after an electric start to life in the Bundesliga on loan with Hoffenheim.

After just five Bundesliga appearances, Nelson has already scored four goals and assisted one. Hoffenheim have to give him big thanks for their last two victories in particular, as it was his contribution that gave them the lead on both occasions.

As a result, there’s already a lot of talk about what’s next for the 18-year-old. Some Arsenal fans want him back as soon as January, and most agree that after a season in Germany he should get a chance under Unai Emery. However, Nelson himself says he’s not yet committing to any one path next season.

“At the moment I’m very happy here,” he said. “I’m playing, I’m scoring, but I’m an Arsenal player at the end of the day, so I have to stay and do my job here, then wherever football takes me I’ll go.”

After Nelson’s contract extension with Arsenal this summer, he’s set to stick around until 2022. If he feels he’s better off continuing his development somewhere else though, it’s very possible we see him going on another loan next season. He won’t even be in his twenties at that stage, after all.

It’s also very possible that if the youngster continues his fantastic early-season form, Arsenal might receive a number of offers for his services on a permanent basis. Hopefully, neither player nor club will listen to those.
