After missing out on Anthony Martial and Kylian Mbappe, perhaps Arsenal should look at the next up-and-coming striker in the Monaco academy, Wilson Isidor.

Isidor recently spoke to the French media, after making his senior debut for Monaco against PSG. First, he revealed that the reason he chose Monaco in the first place was because of the likes of Thierry Henry and Kylian Mbappe.

“When I saw the outbreak of Kylian Mbappe, when I saw that Thierry Henry had passed by there, it made me want to join,” Isidor said. “When you are a young player, today Monaco is one of the clubs where you can blossom completely.”

Despite following in the footsteps of Mbappe and Henry, Isidor admitted that his idol is another Arsenal man, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

“He’s my idol. I find myself a little in his way of moving, in his finish,” the young striker continued. “I really like this player very sincerely. His driving, finishing, I like a lot. His career inspires me a lot. He went over by AS Monaco (on loan in 2010). He is a player who makes me feel good.”

That’s certainly high praise for the Arsenal forward. Isidor only moved to Monaco from Rennes u19s this summer, and he’s spent most of his time with Monaco B since then, playing a part in their UEFA Youth League campaign. He recently scored his first goal in the competition, which is what earned him a senior call-up.

Appearing against PSG in Ligue 1 was never going to be an easy task though. Isidor came off the bench in the second half and had a couple of shots, but couldn’t find his first senior goal. Nonetheless, Isidor has already caught the eye in Italy, where Juventus and Inter Milan are reportedly watching closely, according to CalcioMercato.

Hopefully, Monaco manager Henry will be able to guide the young striker to eventually follow in his footsteps, but we’ll have to wait and see how this season goes first.
