Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Lucas Torreira are worth €10m more than when Arsenal signed them, and they aren’t the only new signings to increase in value this year.
That’s according to Transfermarkt, who calculate transfer values for pretty much every player in Europe today. Looking at Arsenal’s signings this year, we’re comparing each player’s value before their transfer with their current price.
The players to see the biggest increases in value are Torreira and Aubameyang, but the likes of Konstantinos Mavropanos and Matteo Guendouzi have seen huge percentage increases too. Unsurprisingly, the older players like Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Stephan Lichtsteiner haven’t seen the same rises.
Let’s have a look at the full list of 2018 transfers. Just as a note, Transfermarkt store their market values in their database in Euros, so that’s how we’re giving you the figures.
January Signings
- Henrikh Mkhitaryan: €35m to €35m
- Konstantinos Mavropanos: €0.45m to €3m
- Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: €65m to €75m
Summer Signings
- Lucas Torreira: €30m to €40m
- Bernd Leno: €20m to €22m
- Matteo Guendouzi: €2.5m to €12m
- Sokratis Papastathopoulos: €20m to €20m
- Stephan Lichtsteiner: €1.5m to €1.5m
Overall, that’s already a €21.5m increase in value for Arsenal on their summer signings and a €12.05m increase on the January transfers. Not a bad return for just months of playing time.
Hopefully, the likes of Guendouzi, Mavropanos and Torreira will only continue to increase as they move through their twenties. Leno also has the capacity for further rises, considering he’s still very young for a goalkeeper. We’ll see what happens.
