Sven Mislintat has advised Arsenal to make a move for Borussia Dortmund star Julian Weigl, taking advantage of the midfielder’s lack of game time this season.

German outlet Sport Bild report that, according to their sources, Mislintat is advocating a ‘strong commitment’ from Arsenal for Weigl.

Dortmund don’t want to let the midfielder go in the upcoming window, as they’re opposed to weakening their squad in the winter. However, we saw last season with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang that they’ll do so with the right motivation and at the right price.

Weigl has a contract until 2021, but he’s only made a total of seven appearances (five starts) this season. Of the 990 Bundesliga minutes available so far, he’s played 150.

A strong passer with good concentration who loves to put a tackle in, Weigl would make a good defensive midfield addition. With Aaron Ramsey and Mohamed Elneny potentially on the way out, Matteo Guendouzi would become the only alternative option in midfield when Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira need a rest.

Relying on Guendouzi, Xhaka and Torreira alone for an entire season would be a major risk. We’ll see if Mislintat can convince Arsenal to bid big though. Reports this summer suggest Weigl could be worth up to €75m (£66.8m).
