Mohamed Elneny has suffered a thigh injury which will keep him out for the next couple of weeks, Arsenal have confirmed.

Earlier this week we covered Elneny’s Instagram post suggesting he had picked up some sort of knock. He uploaded a video of himself working hard in the Arsenal training centre, captioned: “Soon inshallah (God willing) I will be back”.

At the time, we hadn’t had any official updates on the situation. However, Arsenal have now confirmed on the club website that he has an injury to his right thigh, and is “expected to return to full training in two weeks”.

Elneny has had a difficult start to the season individually, only appearing in the League Cup and Europa League matches after the summer signings of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.

It doesn’t make it any easier that when he had the chance to play 90 minutes against Sporting Lisbon and Blackpool, he ended up only managing 58 before his injury. With Matteo Guendouzi suspended, Elneny would likely have made the squad for Liverpool as well.

Thankfully, the Egyptian midfielder is the kind of player who just seems to get his head down and work hard to get another chance in these situations, as opposed to getting downhearted. We wish him the best with his recovery.
