The CIES Football Observatory have valued Alex Iwobi at over €50m after the Arsenal man’s quick start to the 2018/19 season.

The Football Observatory uses an algorithm based on a number of different factors like player performance, age and contract length to produce a transfer value for each player in Europe’s top leagues. Their latest valuation of Iwobi is €52.4m (£45.8m), the highest of any Nigerian player.

The 22-year-old’s transfer value has increased almost every single month since April, when it was at a low of €29.7m. Part of this increase is down to Iwobi’s contract extension over the summer, but he didn’t see a real jump until the last two months, where his value increased by €15.1m to its current level.

That’s all down to his performances. Iwobi has one goal and five assists so far this season for Arsenal, including goal contributions in both of his appearances against big six opposition.

More than that, the winger’s driving runs forward and intelligent build-up play have led to more than a few goals for his club, even when he hasn’t been directly credited with an assist.

The same goes for Iwobi’s games with Nigeria. He has one assist in two games in international matches this season, but he also helped to create a couple more with some impressive through balls. Let’s hope his value keeps rising in the coming months.
