Arsene Wenger took to the pitch for Variétés Club de France this week, in a one-off match against FC Gueugnon.
The charity match pitted former players who have marked the history of FC Gueugnon against other legends of football in the country. Arsene Wenger, Laurent Blanc, Didier Deschamps and more took part in the match.
It’s great to see Wenger out on the pitch kicking a ball around, despite the fact his 69th birthday is coming up next week. You can enjoy the highlights of his individual performance below:
The event intended to raise money for “+ de vie!” (a charity aiming to improve the lives of elderly people), URMA (set up by Laurent Blanc) and Les papillons blancs d’entre Saône-et-Loire (an organisation working with people with disabilities). Based on the turnout, they should have brought in a fair amount of money for those causes.

As for the actual match, it ended all square at 5-5, which is the kind of result you hope for in these kinds of games. Unfortunately, Wenger didn’t get involved in the goals, playing a much deeper role for the team. Nonetheless, it seems like a very successful day overall.
