Lucas Torreira was greeted by the dulcet tones of the Arsenal away fans as he strutted his stuff around the pitch at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

It is sung to the ‘tune’ of ‘Vieira, oooh, oooh, oooh.’

The Uruguayan midfielder is a firm favourite with the fans despite only arriving at the club in the summer, and although it took him a while to get a start at his new club, he is the only player to feature in every single match under Unai Emery.

Against Fulham, he owned the midfield. Eight ball recoveries, seven duels won, six interceptions and two tackles led his stats for the game.

Speaking after the game, Emery said of the 22-year-old, “He’s very young, it’s his first season here at this level but he was playing in Italy which is a very hard competition also.

“He is playing also with his national team, against big teams. And here, I think with his process he’s doing very well. The first is his humility to work every day, to listen, to learn. He is playing today in the middle, then right in the 4-4-2 and his performance is the same.

“I think his career is just starting and we want to do it with him, he can do it with us, giving us and giving him the best performances at the best level.”
