Petr Cech, Alex Iwobi, Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira are all up for Arsenal’s Player of the Month award for September after the Gunners won every game over that period.
Arsenal announced all the nominees on their website on Wednesday. All four are deserving contenders, after the month each of them had.
Cech may have fallen injured right at the end of September, but he found a way to keep Arsenal in a lot of matches while the defence struggled in front of him. While he kept the goals out at one end, Lacazette put them in at the other, with three goals and two assists in September.
Early in the month, Torreira seemed to change the game every time he came on. By the end, he was a nailed-on starter in the Arsenal first-team. Watching him play, it’s not hard to see why with his tough tackling and impressive passing range.
Iwobi missed the first couple of games of the month with illness. After that though, he came back with a bang. His assist for Aubameyang was perfectly placed, and he was heavily involved in four of Arsenal’s final five goals of the month, even if he didn’t get the credit with a goal or assist. His progress is one of the big positives so far this season.
We’ll have to wait and see which player the fans decide deserves the award.
