Manchester United are ready to sack Jose Mourinho according to the Mail on Sunday and the only reason I’m covering it here is because it’s hilarious.

There is, of course, an argument for the club to keep Jose at the helm, but that’s one you will hear coming from opposition fans. For the United players, fans, staff, and some pundits, the time has come – as it invariably does in Mourinho’s third season anywhere – to say goodbye.

Simon Jones, the reporter who put together the article claims that the Manchester United players and staff were “openly discussing the prospect of Mourinho losing his job as they made the journey back by train to Manchester on Saturday afternoon.” One can only assume they were overheard talking, given Jones’ description.

Where Mourinho would go from United is not clear. We know he likes a club with money, but are there any left in the top divisions that would willingly hand over control of their team to a man who has repeatedly shown to have a three-year term-limit that ends with him dancing in the burning ruins waving a can of petrol around?

“I think the hierarchy and the people who run the club like Ed Woodward are having conversations at that level as to where they go from here,” Ferdinand told BT Sport. “At the moment there doesn’t seem to be that togetherness in the changing room. Decisions on the manager, the squad, how they are going to take this club forward. There has to be improvements.”

“It’s probably as bad as you’ll see from a United team for quite some time,” Scholes said at halftime of the game against West Ham. “We spoke about attitude before the game. It’s been questioned again. The hunger and desire to get against people just wasn’t there.”

Alexis Sanchez was dropped entirely from the matchday squad and no injury is believed to be present.
